Open-SearchEngine now provides an exciting new feature that allows for fully integrated search results on Open-DocumentLibrary content. Following teh google style, image results will also display a thumbnail of the image.

We are very excited to announce that we have just packaged the new beta version of Open-SearchEngine that contains the following new features:

  1. Full Integration with O-DL v4.1
This means that now you will have an option in the Open-SearchEngine Admin to also index documents contained in Open-DocumentLibrary (if you do have the module).

If the option is enabled, Open-SearchEngine will index O-DL content (including the text contained in PDF and OfficeDocuments), as well as the metadata of all other files. In case the files were images, Open-SearchEngine will display the thumbnails of those images.

All search results will respect the access rights you assigned to the documents in Open-DocumentLibrary. Thus, if a user has no access to a document, the document will not be part of the results set.

  2. XHTML compliance on the UI modules.

  3. Duplicates reduction
Duplicates have been reduces by eliminating distinction between regular URLs, and friendly URLs.
Also, when a site uses multilingual features, the results will display only results for the current language.

  4. Bug Fixes
The plus sign in a query was not being handled correctly. Lucene allows the plus sign in its search syntax. The symbol will now be processed correctly.

We feel that this development opens the door to a brand new wave of integrations where Open-SearchEngine could natively index and catalog results from other modules.  For example Shopping Carts, Blogs, Forums, news articles etc...

While Open-SearchEngine already does index these contents, Open-SearchEngine now provides a methodology to work with developers of such modules to do it natively, using the module's APIs.

If you are a developer and are interested in having Open-SearchEngine spider and index your content natively, please do not hesitate to contact us.

If you do have the module, please stay tuned.  The new version will be released soon, and a bundle package Open-SearchEngine/Open-DocumentLibrary will also be made available.
